Florence, Day 4: Palazzo Medici Riccardi PART 2

This painting, Procession of the Magi, is in the private chapel inside Palazzo Medici Riccardi. It depicts three wise men travel to Bethlehem to see the Christ child. The idealized version of Lorenzo the Magnificent is on the white horse close to the right.

Cosimo once arranged a meeting between Eastern and Western churches to sort out their disagreement. Foreign dignitaries from East came to Florence. This painting by Benozzo Gozzoli was meant to recollect that highly regarded event and the Medici’s involvement.

Under the Riccardi era, the interior went through some changes with evident Baroque influence.

While we were there, a meeting was taking place at the Gallery Room of the Palace. The Gallery Room is sometimes used for hosting a dinner party between heads of state.

The photo above is the lemon garden.

We found some contemporary sculptures displayed in the lemon garden.

I enjoyed spending time in Palazzo Medici Riccardi. It was not crowded. The palazzo is very elegant and it presents a glimpse of what the Medici family was like
