London: Trafalgar Square

We traveled from Paris to London in July 2013. The first stop in London was Trafalgar Square, a popular tourist attraction in Central London. You probably have seen it in the movies.

That's one of the four lions guarding Lord Nelson's column at its base and being tortured by tourists all time. People just have to climb up the lion for a photo op.

Besides statues, and monuments, Trafalgar Square also features the fountains and National Gallery.

Believe it or not, the original purpose of the fountains was not for the look, but rather to reduce the open space available so people could not have enough room to start a riot in the middle of the square. Now the fountains are fixtures with LED lights that change colors at night.

And the National Gallery in the background is an art museum that holds more than 2300 paintings from the mid 13th century to 1900.

. . . . . . . . . . . . .
